Morbid Fortress is Available Now!

I just realized that it has been over FIVE years since I last released a game. That's wild. Time has a tendency to disappear, doesn't it? But now that I'm back in the game design groove you can expect much shorter waits between game releases. On that note, I'm stoked to announce that my next game, Morbid Fortress, is out now and available to buy as a print-and-play release for the appropriate sum of $6.66!

If you haven't read my recent posts, the launch of Morbid Fortress also coincides with the kick off of my new Write and Erase Solo Series, which I'm super excited about. I've been making a bunch of small but fairly chunky and complex solo micro games that each utilize 18 sleeved cards, 3 six-sided dice, and a dry erase marker. They're roll and writes that use the cards as the board. You can write directly on them. It's pretty cool and has opened a lot of interesting design space for my projects.

They're also print and play only games (for now). Which is a format I'm quite enjoying exploring with my designs. Here's a bit more info:

Looks Cool! What Do I Do Now?

Oh hey, that's so nice of you to ask! I have a few ideas:

  1. Buy the game? It's available for $6.66 on itch.io and directly through my web store here.

  2. Play the game! AHA! I bet you weren't expecting this one. Once purchased, you'll (hopefully) download the files, print them out, cut out and sleeve the cards, grab some dice and a fine tip dry erase marker, and get to it!

  3. Tell other people about the game. The first two points are helpful, because...money is evil but also needed to do things like get food and pay bills. But also, word of mouth is a powerful way to support creatives making stuff you enjoy. If you're having fun with the game, please take a moment to let other people know about it! Snap some photos and post them on the insta-ma--gram-webs (and be sure to tag doom.thoughts so I can see and give heart emojiiiiiiiis. Hop on over to Board Game Geek and give it a rating. Send them my way! Stuff like that.

  4. Sign up for my newsletter. Because I've got more of these games in the pipeline, and that's the best way to know when the next one is coming up. It's also where I occasionally put out calls for playtesters and other stuff.

  5. Errr....Follow me on Instagram? I guess? When Twitter ate its shit and mutated into the cesspool that is now X, I ditched the platform. In doing so, I sort of lost access to over 2k followers and a lot of cool people I used to interact with on the platform. I only just recently got back on social media for game design stuff, and rebuilding a social media following from scratch is both daunting and tough. If you want to interact with me in a more...social way, IG is a good way to do it. Also I post images and blurbs about stuff I'm working on more frequently over there than these sporadic blog posts (thought I'm trying to get better at writing posts more consistently).

And that's it for now I guess? I truly appreciate your support. It means a lot and encourages me to keep putting out weird game projects.

How to Play Morbid Fortress (The Video)

Morbid Fortress is a dark necromantic stronghold crafting and defense roll-and-write game for one player. Gather and craft macabre resources, build grim structures, and defend your unholy fortress from crusader onslaughts. To win, you must build and maintain a strong enough fortress to withstand the final assault. If you're curious how to play, I've made an in-depth video you can check out. It was a pain in the ass to make, to be sure, but it does a good job of walking through how to setup and play. Also, please pardon my disembodied voice:

So What's Next?

The next game in the Write and Erase Solo Series is essentially done, and it's a dusey! I've been kicking the tires a bunch to make sure they don't fall off, and it's about ready for public playtesting. If you want an early peek at it and are cool with giving it a try and offering feedback, join my newsletter and/or get in touch. I'll be sending out info about that soon. I'm hoping to get the next game out in a few months, with more to come after that.

Thanks a bunch! Ta ta for now.
